Unravelling Egypt: A 6-Day Adventure
Welcome to a whirlwind journey through the mesmerizing land of Egypt, where ancient wonders and modern comforts converge to create an unforgettable experience. In just six days, we’ll traverse through time, exploring iconic landmarks, immersing ourselves in history, and indulging in the rich culture of this mystical land. Buckle up, as we embark on an adventure of a lifetime!
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo
After touching down in Cairo, I have to say I was a little anxious landing in a foreign country however, we booked a private transfer and the driver made us feel extremely safe as we make our way to the luxurious Steigenberger Pyramids Cairo hotel, our home away from home for the next two days. Nestled in the shadow of the Great Pyramids, this hotel offers breathtaking views and unmatched comfort.
Day 2: Marvels of Giza
Today is dedicated to exploring the ancient wonders of Giza. We start our day with a full day tour and a visit to the Great Pyramids, standing tall as a testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians. Next, we encounter the enigmatic Sphinx, guarding the plateau with its timeless gaze. For a taste of adventure, we embark on a camel ride, channeling the spirit of ancient travelers who traversed these sands millennia ago. There’s something unexplainable about riding a camel around the pyramids in the desert, just amazing and something everyone should do at least once! Our journey continues with visits to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, and Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest stone pyramid in the world. Booking a private guided tour with a knowledgeable Egyptologist for this day made the trip that much better. The tour guides, insights, hospitality and honesty was unforgettable.
Day 3: Grand Egyptian Museum
Prepare to be transported through time as we delve into the treasures of ancient Egypt at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Housing over 100,000 artifacts, including the legendary treasures of King Tutankhamun, this museum offers a comprehensive glimpse into Egypt’s illustrious past. From intricately carved statues to awe-inspiring mummies, each exhibit tells a story of a civilization steeped in myth and legend.
Day 4: Luxor Bound
Today, we bid farewell to Cairo and board a flight to Luxor, the gateway to the ancient city of Thebes. Upon arrival, we check into the opulent Hilton Luxor hotel, where luxury meets the banks of the Nile. From the moment we checked into the Hotel I could tell that Luxor would be my favourite place of the trip, and it was! In the afternoon, we set sail on a traditional felucca, gliding along the tranquil waters of the Nile, soaking in the panoramic views of Luxor’s timeless beauty.
Day 5: Treasures of Luxor
Our exploration of Luxor’s treasures begins with another full day tour and a visit to the Valley of the Kings, where the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were laid to rest in elaborate tombs hidden within the rocky cliffs. We then pay homage to the trailblazing Queen Hatshepsut at her stunning mortuary temple, carved into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Our journey continues with visits to the Colossi of Memnon, the towering statues of Amenhotep III, and the sprawling complex of Karnak, a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian architecture. We conclude our day with a visit to Luxor Temple, bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, offering a glimpse into the spiritual heart of ancient Thebes. This was such an amazing day and dare I say it, so much better than visiting the pyramids!
Day 6: Farewell to Egypt
As our adventure draws to a close, we take a moment to relax and rejuvenate by the pool, savoring the final moments of our Egyptian sojourn. With hearts full of memories and minds enriched with knowledge, we bid farewell to this captivating land, carrying with us a piece of its timeless magic.
